EDUCAUSE conducts an annual research study on the state of Analytics in Higher Education. E. Dahlstrom (2016) outlines the key concepts, infrastructure, staffing, and investment needed to ensure analytics takes hold on an University campus. The study deploys an index that shows changes over time. To move programs forward the author asserts that Institutional Research engagement and leadership in the planning and execution process is a key factor in maturing analytics as a program or service. Equally as important is having a decision-making culture present and ready for optimization. Strengthening change management approaches and looking to revise policies are also key.
