Surfacing flat file information in a new way with a fancy visualization tool is not going to help institutions of higher education meet the needs of the future. Advanced analytics requires institutions to address and plan for data volume, variety, and velocity according to G. Wishon and J. Rome (2016). Key concepts include looking for opportunities in non-traditional datasets, knowing how to evaluate cloud-based analytic services, and the needs of higher education workers to improve their skills and tools to compete.
