While looking specifically at chief IT leaders across the academic enterprise, J. Pomerantz and D.C. Brooks highlight the skills necessary for individuals interested in pushing boundaries of applied technology to educational outcomes. Required skills in business acumen, political savviness, strong communication, and the ability to collaborate appear to outweigh the need for high technical competence. Looking to the future for data approaches in higher education one is left wondering if a new set of professional development skills and competencies are needed to prepare future data focused leaders in higher education.
